Brief update

It's now been a month since I bought my house, but I haven't even spent my first night in it yet.

There's still a lot of work that needs to be done: painting, planting, cleaning, and repairing. I've been fortunate that Mom and Dad have been by to help. The biggest problem are the toilets-one's leaking and the other just needs to be replaced in all. That's the main reason for not moving in... unless of course, I want to have a little outhouse in the backyard.

That, coupled with work, have drained me. I'm really looking forward to the trip to Honduras. Even though it's going to be tough, I really need a double shot of motivation right now.

Over the weekend, it was really cool having my parents around. Dad and I were in the kitchen together on Friday night, preparing a Lenten meal with just seafood. Of course, when I'm around them, my true Filipino side comes to light. I remember as I kid I would turn my nose to almost any Filipino dish that had fish in it; now I crave it! I never liked "bangus" which is a freshwater fish- it's milkfish in English called for the milky juice that drips when cooking. It was probably because there were so many bones.. it's bony compared to other fish, but then I discovered boneless bangus. Dad combined broiled bangus and oysters into a salad with jalapeno, onions, tomatoes, and lime. I made mungo, a bean dish cooked in coconut milk. Ay sarap na!
